Where do we stand with efforts to replace reef-damaging sunscreens with alternatives?

The solution is already available in stores throughout Hawai’i: zinc oxide. Fortunately, there are now clear zinc oxide sunscreens that don’t turn your skin bright white. Importantly, they are effective against ultraviolet radiation AND do not contain oxybenzone and other chemicals that damage corals. Of course, it’s also important to request that your store stop selling oxybenzone-based sunscreens.
